Beginning in the fall of 2020, I had the honor of working with a group of talented students and the non-profit organization Army of Angels to provide academic support for grades 3-12 in the Central Florida area. Bringing all forms of assistance to students in need continues to be the mission of Army of Angels. Student volunteers play an important role in the impact Army of Angels can make.
But, with the pandemic already interrupting schools in the spring of 2020, it was apparent that something needed to be done to help students struggling with the new distance-learning environment. We created Helping All Students Learn Online (HALO) for this exact reason.
HALO Tutoring brought personalized academic experiences to students who attended both face-to-face and virtual schooling during the 2020-2021 year. This network offers free and online tutoring using student volunteers and coordinators. Currently, we reach over 400 registered students and tutors and coordinate over 50 appointments each week during the school year. Entering into the 2021-2022 academic calendar, Army of Angels continues to grow with the support of incredible student volunteers.
